Every home or small business is different. The size of the generator is based on the type and power requirement of appliances, equipment, pumps, air-conditioners and other electrical devices requiring power.
You can quite accurately calculate your power requirements by referring to product manuals or the item itself. You will need to take into account start-up power as well as running power. You should always add on a little extra power just to be safe.
Some household items might surprise you in terms of how much power they require, for example a kettle will need 2.5kW and a hairdryer 1kW, but an LCD TV only needs 75W....close attention needs to be paid to what items you need to run off your generator.
